September babies here's your birthstone - The Sapphire

Sapphires, a type of corundum, come in many different colours, the one that we most commonly see being blue. The most valuable types of sapphire would be royal and cornflower blue, having a very rich, intense and velvety blue colour.

Having a hardness that is second only to diamonds, Sapphire's are really durable, rating 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness. You'll never have to worry about damaging your sapphire jewellery. And in fact, due to this hardness, many watches have their face made of sapphire glass.

Fun fact: The largest blue sapphire in the world is 1404ct, worth over US$300 million.

Known as the stone of wisdom, love, loyalty, and devotion, it is a popular choice for engagement rings, one of the most famous ones being Kate Middleton's engagement ring, a 12 carat oval blue sapphire.

Be it an expression of love or expression of yourself, having a gem quality sapphire will surely make your heart beat with excitement
